ROLLER MONITORING

Case study

Mining

Copper

Peru

Challenge

To have a monitoring system that alerts to pole failures and facilitates predictive maintenance in a hard-to-access area (hooded conveyor).

ULMA Solution

Installation of the GAZIMO® monitoring system on ultra-light and resistant composite poles, which also makes handling easier.

Lessons learned

One of the rollers started to show an abnormally low temperature. At first, this did not appear to be a problem, but it revealed that the roller was not in full contact with the belt.

Adjacent rollers were taking a heavier load, accelerating wear. Conclusion: having a monitoring system that reports data even when rollers are not turning not only detects roller faults, but also helps to identify misalignments in height and areas of increased stress on the conveyor.
